Anth Martin -WISHBLOWIN' ASH - Anth Martin born in 1973 very first
started drumming in high school in 1986 aged 13, being very heavily influenced
by Death/Thrash Metal, Punk and classic rock, all genres which he still loves
to this day ...twenty years on! He started his career in various local punk and
metal bands in the UK from a very young age and progressed to his very first
studio demo CD in 1989, which resulted in a very unexpected whirlwind 2 month
tour of Norway in mid 1990. Still being young, Anth then took some much
deserved time off the drum-stool, got married, had a family and got all that
out the way, before deciding what musical direction he wanted to pursue
. In recent years participating in some punk revival bands he was head
hunted by North East based Wishbone Ash tribute band "Wishblowin' Ash", often
referred to a North East UK Supergroup, who had real trouble finding a drummer
to the right technical standard. Anth was offerered the job on the spot after
an audition, he immediately accepted, and has never looked back.
As Anth says, "The challenge about Wishbone Ash music
is the sheer complexity and technical arrangements of the songs. In the 70s
when Wishbone Ash first started out you really had to play an instrument VERY
well. But in a lot of modern music there's not a lot of technical energy put
into it. So it had been a real struggle to put the band together musically.
Then even when you all do your homework individually, putting it together as a
band is still difficult. You've got to make it gel. After all, Wishbone Ash
scatterbrain drummer Steve Upton playing vintage Ludwig Vistalites is a real
difficult act to follow!"
Anth has recently chosen to play the ddrum
DIODE clear acrylic kit, in the 'FLY'
configuration as his primary kit, having considered other kits such as the
Pearl Referenece series, Mapex Orion and a few kits Sonor has offered him.
After a lot of thought and deliberation he finally decided his new kit was to
be modern ACRYLIC shelled setup, the Diode was the logical choice. In fact it
was the only kit decided Anth would have. "After trying the Diode I came to
realise it is simply head and shoulders above any acrylic shelled kit any of
the competition have to offer!"
Not only is Anth endorsed by ddrum, but
is also endorsed by Duallist Pedals. And also uses Aquarian drumheads and
Paiste cymbals. |
